Free templates
These templates are produced by Acas and hosted on the Acas website. They are not ours. We have gathered them here because they are the best free starting points available to a UK employer, and because they are the ones we are asked for most often.
Every link below opens on acas.org.uk, so you always get the current version rather than a copy that went out of date the day it was saved. Acas updates them as the law changes, and a good deal of employment law is changing between now and 2027: see what the Employment Rights Act changes.
Disclaimer
These templates are provided by Acas, not by Hunter and Young. We do not own them, host them, or control their content, and we cannot guarantee that any of them is current, complete, or suitable for your circumstances.
A template is a starting point, not advice. It does not know your contracts, your handbook, your history with the person, or what has already been said. Using the wrong one, or the right one at the wrong stage, is a common way for a straightforward situation to become a claim.
You use these documents at your own risk. To the extent permitted by law, Hunter and Young Limited accepts no liability for any loss, claim, cost or penalty arising from their use, or from anything done or not done in reliance on them or on this page. Nothing here is legal or HR advice, and nothing here creates a client relationship.
If you want a document written for your business and advice you can actually rely on, talk to us.

A template is written for everybody, which means it is written for nobody in particular. We draft contracts, handbooks, policies and letters for your business, your sector and the situation actually in front of you, and we will tell you when a free template would have done the job perfectly well.
